Previously I was asked to join a wonderful team filled with some of the best people I've met in a while. They were setting up a photoshoot for a while now and were looking for a hair stylist to join them, that is when they reached out to me. I originally worked with Vanessa and Dena for a fashion show at the Hudson's Bay, we're all Blanche Macdonald graduates and that was something that brought us all closer together. I must say that if you want to get more involved in your industry of choice to reach out to others in the same field. For the fashion and beauty industry connections are important, you need to put yourself out there so others know who you are. It's all about making a name for yourself.

"Hustle until you no longer need to introduce yourself."

This shoot was a great opportunity to meet new people, our models Lisa and Trisha were so nice to work with. As well as our photographer Elmer who is absolutely amazing at his work. I suggest checking them all out on their social media, you don't want to miss their work! Without the group that we had we wouldn't have been able to produce the work we did.

I won't deny photoshoot days can be very stressful, overwhelming, and long, but with a motivational team it'll always be a day to remember. It's important to not get so wrapped up in little things, because nothing will ever be flawless. You'll always run into problems that you wish you could change, but that's what makes it so great. It's all a learning curve, there are always new things to learn and if you don't experience them for yourself you will never learn. Think about it as something that you'll do differently next time.

You'll learn more about yourself and the type of individual you want to be. With shoots you'll know what your comfortable with, things that you might not want to do next time. However you'll continue learning and growing with skills you gain along the way.

"I make hair contact, before I make eye contact"

Now since this is a hair post, I'll tell you about the techniques I was able to use while designing their hair.

Our first look was very simple however the styling was very elegant. Imagine living in a skyrise, sipping on champaign, and strolling around in your robe. That was the look we wanted to create, and in order to do that the hairstyles needed to be delicate. Our model Trisha had her hair kept natural with her soft beachy waves, while I straightened Lisa's hair to let it fall naturally down her back.

Our second look was more intriguing, it was your "ladies who lunch" style. For Lisa I created a high pony and used Joico's texturizing spray to give her more volume. I braided Trish's hair back with an inverted braid and brought it up into a messy bun.

The last look, which was probably my favourite included sparkly suits which tailored their bodies. While the hair was everything that I enjoy about doing hair. We slicked Lisa's hair back so it was away from her face, a look that you see down the red carpet. Trish's hair included more work (I ended up dropping my straightener in the process and cracking one of the plates) however it was definitely worth it. I began with curving the hair in one direction while straightening and moving the hair in an "s" formation, overall creating a thermal version of a 1920's fingerwave.

Photoshoots are a time for you to show your technique, skills, and all of the practice that you've put in to create gorgeous looks. Don't be afraid, always reach out, even if that just means assisting someone else in the same field, you'll never stop learning and you'll gain so many new opportunities if you just open new doors.
