L'Oreal Runway Presentation

Updated: Sep 18, 2019

I attended a L’Oreal runway presentation this past weekend, to expand my knowledge within the industry. I felt like it was important to share this with you guys because as lame as it sounds, you should never stop learning. Not only was the presentation about styling, makeup, and hair strategies but they also ventured into social media and some tricks and tips to create something huge.

There are many different hair stylists within this field, however these are a few that were touched on within this presentation. Sam McKnight, Guido Palau, and Peter Gray, are some stylists that have made big names for themselves. They all have strengths in certain aspects, they do runway work with major designers, they've done editorial work, magazine publishing, and have created their own brands as well. One of my favourites is Peter Gray who is the creative director of hair for Maison Martin Margiela, as well as he has earned campaign work for YSL, Givenchy, Lanvin, Hugo Boss, Lancome, and my all time favourite house, Moschino.

Within the class we touched on shapes, and how contrast can effect designs. No more than two textures should be placed in the hair. Creating work with one focal point, and one complimentary point helps create balance and harmony within your work. This ties in with makeup and styling, if you have super dramatic makeup, wardrobe, and hair this will work negatively due to there not being any focal point and your viewers eyes wont be able to focus in on the work you're trying to emphasize.

Social Media Tips And Tricks

There was a lot things that were talked about when it came to social media, some of which I knew previously from Blanche MacDonald, however some of these tips were new to me and I thought they would be important for me to share with you as well. So here we have it, lets begin. First things first, you should be planning ahead when it comes to your posts, which ones will flow nicely together, what is your plan and who are you trying to reach out to? This relates to your theme, once you choose one whether that be colour, lighting, content, anything that helps your page flow. However once you choose what you like you must stick with it so that everything flows well together. Timing is crucial when it comes to posting photos, the right time means that your photo will reach more people. Sundays are good days to post, because those are the days where people are lounging around just skimming through social media. Another good time would be at around 10am during the week, this is usually the time where people have had their morning meetings and are unwinding at their desks beginning their day.

Many people don't realize how hashtags, and tagging help influence likes and follows on your page. For your content you need to look at the most popular tags that are used that relate to your photos. Once you do that, create a list of them in your notes where you can go back and just copy and paste rather than spending so much time having to write them out every time. When you look at your social media, is it something that you enjoy the content on? Is it something that you enjoy, and would like to see more of? Or is it something that doesn't flow, doesn't have anything interesting that separates it from everyone else? If it's not something that you enjoy, how could you possibly think that your followers will?
